Some people are only experiencing their spiritual awakenings now. Others have yet to start this journey and some of won’t in this lifetime. The rest, however, have gone through their spiritual awakenings and demonstrate clear characteristics of having done so.
These characteristics are clearly obvious to the people that surround them and anyone they come into contact with. Some people won’t understand fully but the ones that have known them for the longest will notice a definite change.
What are these traits that a highly spiritual person develops?
They Collect Experiences
You have realised that the accumulation of ‘stuff’ or material things will never truly make you happy. In fact, all it does is serve as an anchor. The more we have, the more it seems that we are Physically stuck in one place, unable to leave all of these material goods behind that we have spent years working to obtain, or in most cases, have to spend years working to pay them off.
Travel, adventure, milestones. These are what we should be truly accumulating throughout life and you have realised this. Your mind is constantly searching for your next experience and you are actively selling, or donating, your old ‘stuff’ in order to pave the way for these new experiences.
They’re Highly Positive
You are increasingly aware of both the negative people that fill your life and of the negative behaviour you once displayed. You are drawn towards positivity, inspiration and creativity. Your soul yearns to spend time with positive people who feel the same. When you hear negativity you emotionally flinch, that’s just not who you are anymore.
At the same time, you do not judge those who are negative, they are not as far along the path as you are yet. Instead, you marvel at the negative thought patterns and behaviours you surrounded yourself with in the past. You’re eternally grateful that you have evolved from being that person and developed into the optimistic and loving individual you’ve turned into.
In the same breath, you are constantly exploring personal development, learning new skills and honing existing ones. You have a thirst for knowledge, especially anything to do with Nature, Spirituality, Philosophy etc. You have recognised life is learning, and you never, ever stop being the student.
They Love Immersing Themselves in Nature
You have developed a deep connection with nature and experience extreme cabin fever when you’re cooped up indoors for too long. There is nothing quite like being outdoors, feeling the breeze brush across your skin and the sun heating your body. Did you even notice this before? You do now, and you yearn to explore new places and reconnect with old ones.
There is something awe-inspiring about being in the presence of mountains that have stood for thousands of years, un-perturbed by the comings and goings of man. It matters not to them who lays claim to certain pieces of land and you laugh at how stupid it must seem to nature that people fight for ownership of something they will never truly own.
You recognise these thoughts and the deepness of them. Recognising that we all have our place on earth, none higher than another is a key aspect of becoming spiritually awakened. It makes you sad that one species takes away from the planet, where everything else gives back and works in harmony. You hope that changes, and soon.
Their Lives Encompass Synchronicity
Everything falling into place? Once you make a decision that enhances your spiritual journey, the universe makes it very easy to achieve it.
Synchronicity is not a new concept, it was first described by Carl Jung, a Swiss psychologist, in the 1920s. Synchronicity is the experience of meaningful, related events that are unlikely to be mere coincidence. It has been going on around you the entire time, but now you are clearly able to see the connectedness of everything. The reason that life seemed so hard before was because you were concentrating on the wrong things. Now you are moving forward spiritually, that friction eases and you move forward more confidently.
Synchronicity is always guiding us and it is important to tune into this and listen. Through this, we know we are maintaining the correct path and are able to continue on forward.
They Actively Try to Make the World a Better Place
You are much more aware of actions and consequences. Your choices do not only affect yourself anymore, you are consciously thinking of others when you make them. Selfish desires are all but gone and your thoughts are leaning towards how you can contribute to making the world a better place.
Ego holds you back, compassion propels you forward. You witness the suffering and poverty that fills the world and experience deep sadness. You want your existence to leave the world a little bit better than when you found it.
Making the world a better place doesn’t necessarily mean being the one who can change everything. That’s impossible for one person unfortunately, it would take the coming together of the majority of people for that to happen. However, knowing that even improving one person’s life is in fact, changing the world for one person is powerful knowledge and, through leading by example, we might instruct others to act in the same way.
