Of all the people we love in our lives, we tend to neglect ourselves the most. We spend our time focusing on others and our own emotional wellbeing gets left to the side. However, if you are to live a happy and healthy life, then you need to learn how to love yourself spiritually.
This can be a hard thing to master. If we have low self-esteem then we may be too caught up on the things we don’t like about ourselves, to notice all the amazing qualities we have.
It’s time to focus on these now. One of the most important tasks you need to start doing is recognizing your great qualities and thank yourself for them every day.
Start with a few and grow the number by one extra thing each day. Eventually, it’ll get easier and you’ll start feeling much better about yourself!
Here are 14 other tips for learning how to love yourself spiritually.
How To Love Yourself Spiritually in 14 Steps
1) Release Bottled Up Emotions
Carrying emotions from the past only ever harms you and it is important to learn how to let these go. The same can be said with present emotions. It is ok to be hurt, feel pain or be angry. The most important aspect is to learn how to deal with these emotions in a healthy way.
Analyze your feelings and the thoughts associated with them and learn to let them go. You have the power to control how you react to situations.
2) Don’t Apologize For Being You
There is nothing wrong with being who you are and as long as you treat others with compassion and understanding, you have nothing to apologize for. If you want to do something that goes against the grain then do it.
If you’re not hurting anyone and people are shocked that you’re daring to step off the beaten path, then that’s their problem, not yours!
3) Embrace Your Flaws
The most important aspect of being able to grow is to learn to love yourself unconditionally – flaws and all. That includes dealing with and learning to love, all of the things you would have previously thought of as ‘flaws’. You are perfect the way that you are.
There is no one like you and there never will be, own it!
4) Nurture Your Inner Strength
You are a strong, confident person and it’s important to concentrate on this and build it. Learning who you really are and loving yourself is a powerful way to achieve this.
People naturally gravitate to a person who exudes inner strength because they find it hard to develop it themselves. Be the person people gravitate to, not the other way around.
5) Surround Yourself With Positive People
Why spend time with people who make you feel worse? There’s enough unavoidable negativity in the world without choosing to surround yourself with it.
Be close with people that understand you and love you for who you are. People who are optimistic, positive and love life as much as you do. This will make a huge difference to your own outlook on life.
6) Stop Putting a Monetary Value on Everything
You cannot buy happiness and your value isn’t dependent on the possessions you own. A lot of us get caught up in making as much money as we can. We take a major risk in believing that if we put off happiness for the sake of a career now, then we will be able to buy it later.
That isn’t the case and knowing that early on allows you to spend more time on the things that really matter.
7) Don’t Let Others Define You
This is one a lot of us are guilty of. Going out of our way to make other people happy or behaving in ways which we think will make other people like us more. In all honesty though, why care what other people think?
It is a powerful realization to know that the only people worth having in our lives are the people that love and support us for who we truly are.
8) Realizing That Others Aren’t Responsible For Your Happiness
Happiness doesn’t come down to another person and even though it is a beautiful thing to find your other half, they cannot fill the void of happiness completely.
That is down to you alone and it is important to note that a relationship will only be truly successful if both parties are happy in themselves.
9) Stop Making Excuses
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who you are saying them to, excuses are empty justifications as to why we didn’t perform or act as we should have.
Mistakes and failure are perfectly fine and they won’t put as much of a dampener on your spirits as constant excuses you make for not acting on opportunities.
Start doing and it will make all the difference.
10) Let Go of Anger and Resentment
Anger hurts no one more than yourself and it’s important to know this. It is a poisonous emotion that spreads throughout our bodies, overpowering every other emotion we could be feeling.
Long term anger develops into resentment and bitterness and will not affect the person you have these feelings towards. It will affect you however so take control and get your own back by learning to let go and live your life free from resentment.
11) Love Your Body
You will find that the vast majority of your own body hang-ups are not even noticed by other people. We are each beautiful in our own ways and there will always be something about you that people admire. Learn to love your body and appreciate your health.
Find something you love about yourself and speak gratefully out loud about it.
Add more things to your list and you will learn to appreciate your body rather than wish it were different.
12) Let Go of Judgement
Judging people just makes you look like an ass. You will never fully know someone’s situation, nor do you know how you would react in that same situation. It is always better to analyze situations with compassion and understanding rather than judgement.
It will make you a much better person and also the type of person people want to be around.
13) Give Up Control
We are people that try to keep as much under control as possible. However, all we are really in control of our lives is our own actions. Once you have learned that then the need for control in all areas of life disappears.
It’s not possible and is a futile search that only stops you from being at your happiest.
14) Let Go of The Past
The past should only be remembered for the lessons it taught you. Living in the past and refusing to move on, stops you from being able to fully live in the present. It is only by living in the now can we truly be happy so you need to let go of things that happened.
There was a reason for them and sometimes it takes the acceptance of what happened to finally see what those lessons are.
If you take these 14 simple steps in your stride, you’ll know exactly how to love yourself spiritually.
