Deepak Chopra’s Top 8 Meditation Tips
What’s the best time to meditate? What’s the best way to position my body? How long should I meditate for? Many of us have questions about meditation, particularly when we’re starting out.
More and more people are practicing meditation and incorporating it into their daily routine. It’s now recommended by doctors and health professionals to aid with a number of conditions including combatting stress, easing anxiety and helping the fight against depression. It also allows a person to develop a deep focus and obtain goals they’ve set for themselves.
However, many people get stuck on how to start and although people tend to develop their own preferred ways to meditate, there are some helpful pointers to start off with. In this Super Soul Sunday episode, Deepak tells Oprah about his top 8 meditation tips.
For instance, Deepak says that the best time of the day to meditate is in the morning, just after a restful night’s sleep. This way you are using meditation to energise yourself. Whereas when we meditate after a long day we can be tired and meditation makes us sleepier.
He also lets us know that he meditates for a staggering 2 hours in the morning! Now this is not feasible for most people but he says that 15-20 minutes is more than enough time for us to become recharged.
The best position is sitting as when we lie down, we’re more likely to drift off to sleep. In a quiet environment where we won’t be disturbed and where we can clearly hear the sound of our own breathing. It’s ok to listen to soft music or nature sounds, but again you need to make sure you can hear your own rhythmic breathing.
It’s a fascinating interview from one of the most respected men in the field of meditation and mindfulness.
