Many of us have gone through, or are in the midst of, our spiritual awakening. It is both a deeply personal journey and one in which makes us feel more connected with others who have travelled down the same path. I always find it interesting to hear experiences others went through in their awakenings. It’s not exactly the same for everyone, however their are some parts that we all seem to share.

There are also those of us who aren’t aware that they are in the process of going through a Spiritual Awakening. If you think about it, we are not privy to these experiences through mainstream media etc, so someone who hasn’t been exposed to this terminology might be experiencing feelings that are completely alien to them.

This is one of the main reasons I have written this article, so those people know that it is an experience many of us go through, you are not alone. It has also been created so that those who are more versed in Spirituality and who are going through, or gone through this process, can see if you agree with these shared experiences of Spiritual Awakenings.

If you do feel like sharing your unique experiences, please fell free to do so in the comments.

6 Signs of a Spiritual Awakening

You Want Experiences, not ‘Stuff’

You have realised that the accumulation of ‘stuff’ or material things will never truly make you happy. In fact, all it does is serve as an anchor. The more we have, the more it seems that we are Physically stuck in one place, unable to leave all of these material goods behind that we have spent years working to obtain, or in most cases, have to spend years working to pay them off.

Travel, adventure, milestones. These are what we should be truly accumulating throughout life and you have realised this. Your mind is constantly searching for your next experience and you are actively selling, or donating, your old ‘stuff’ in order to pave the way for these new experiences.

I have come to believe that giving and receiving are really the same.
Giving and receiving – not giving and taking
Joyce Grenfell

Your Career needs Meaning

Waking up at the crack of dawn, yelling at everyone to get ready and out of the door, to get stuck in the endless lines of rush hour, morning traffic en route to a job that holds no meaning for you. Day in – Day out.

What-Is-The-Purpose-of-This!

If you have found yourself asking the same question and experiencing the burning desire to work in an area that you truly love, that has meaning; then chances are this is part of your spiritual awakening.

Perhaps you’ve already made the move and are settling into spending your days filled with doing the things that you love. But if not, why not? What’s holding you back? Is it so you can buy more shiny things? Are you scared that your life will get worse. Can it?

The universe has a way of pushing you down the path you were always meant to walk on, and that never includes spending the precious days of your life, toiling away at something that drains you. Identify your true passions and move towards them, The difference when you take that leap is astounding and is truly the start of your Spiritual Journey.

You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you
have truly lived are the moments when you have
done things in the spirit of love
Henry Drummond

Farewell Negativity, Hello Positivity!

You are increasingly aware of both the negative people that fill your life, and of the negative behaviour you once displayed. You are drawn towards positivity, inspiration and creativity. Your soul yearns to spend time with positive people who feel the same. When you hear negativity you emotionally flinch, that’s just not who you are anymore.

At the same time, you do not judge those who are negative, they are not as far along the path as you are yet. Instead you marvel at the negative thought patterns and behaviours you surrounded yourself with in the past. You’re eternally grateful that you have evolved from being that person and developed into the optimistic and loving individual you’ve turned into.

In the same breath, you are constantly exploring personal development, learning new skills and honing existing ones. You have a thirst for knowledge, especially anything to do with Nature, Spirituality, Philosophy etc. You have recognised life is learning, and you never, ever stop being the student.

You need to be at one with Nature

You have developed a deep connection with nature and experience extreme cabin fever when you’re cooped up indoors for too long. There is nothing quite like being outdoors, feeling the breeze brush across your skin and the sun heating your body. Did you even notice this before? You do now, and you yearn to explore new places and reconnect with old ones.

There is something awe-inspiring about being in the presence of mountains that have stood for thousands of years, un-perturbed by the comings and goings of man. It matters not to them who lays claim to certain pieces of land and you laugh at how stupid it must seem to nature that people fight for ownership of something they will never truly own.

You recognise these thoughts and the deepness of them. Recognising that we all have our place on earth, none higher than another, is a key aspect of becoming spiritually awakened. It makes you sad that one species takes away from the planet, where everything else gives back and works in harmony. You hope that changes, and soon.

There are only two ways to live your life.
One is as though nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though everything is a miracle
 ~ Albert Einstein

Feelings of Synchronicity

Everything falling into place? Once you make a decision that enhances your spiritual journey, the universe makes it very easy to achieve it.

Synchronicity is not a new concept, it was first described by Carl Jung, a Swiss Psychologist, in the 1920s. Synchronicity is the experience of meaningful, related events that are unlikely to be mere coincidence. It has been going on around you the entire time, but now you are clearly able to see the connectedness of everything. The reason that life seemed so hard before was because you were concentrating on the wrong things. Now you are moving forward spiritually, that friction eases and you move forward more confidently.

Synchronicity is always guiding us and it is important to tune into this and listen. Through this we know we are maintaining the correct path and are able to continue on forward.

I am open to the guidance of synchronicity, and do not let expectations hinder my path.
~ Dalai Lama

Making the world a better place

You are much more aware of actions and consequences. Your choices do not only affect yourself anymore, you are consciously thinking of others when you make them. Selfish desires are all but gone and you thoughts are leaning towards how you can contribute to making the world a better place.

Ego holds you back, compassion propels you forward. You witness the suffering and poverty that fills the world and experience a deep sadness. You want your existence to leave the world a little bit better than when you found it.

Making the world a better place doesn’t necessarily mean being the one who can change everything. That’s impossible for one person unfortunately, it would take the coming together of the majority of people for that to happen. However, knowing that even improving one persons life is in fact, changing the world for one person is a powerful knowledge and, through leading by example, we might instruct others to act in the same way.

You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one
James A Froude

These are but some of the experiences one will go through on their spiritual awakening. But they are significant and shared. You may have unknowingly been going through your own awakening and not known what was going on. Now you do and can carry on knowing that you are experiencing something beautiful and ultimately, life changing.

The biggest learning on this path of awakening is that people often dont like and understand the new you & start thinking of your detached approach to life as ego and sometimes to make people happy you move away from your awakening which is the biggest dis service one can do to onself. One has to keep moving on the path of awakening and eventually people around you will appreciate the change .
